Our Ethos

The story of Good Pain Wines is more than just a narrative. It's a reflection of founder Faith Parsons’ journey through her career, and the philosophy that drives everything the winery will become. The name represents the powerful concept that many of life’s most cherished rewards can stem from our most painful experiences, physically and emotionally.

Faith’s path in the wine industry has been marked by sacrifice- relocating to unfamiliar places, carving space in a male dominated industry, seasons spent away from loved ones- all in pursuit of her craft. Through these hardships, Faith has come to see that pain can lead to profound transformation in the most obvious and tangible form of a bottle of wine.

“Good Pain” represents the rewards that can come from our hardships, both in life and winemaking. The grapevine endures the shifting seasons to produce exceptional fruit, that fruit passes many hands to transform it into a beautiful juice. The juice embraces the nature of fermentation to take its final form in bottle, where it will still evolve for many years to come. Individuals too must face the challenges that come with the changing seasons, and making decisions in their lives that force them to evolve into a more mature & expressive self.

This philosophy connects the struggles of winemaking with the universal human experience. Faith’s dream is that when you open a bottle of her wine, you are able to reflect on this ethos. May you not only think of the arduous journey the wine has endured to be there with you, but also your own life’s pains that led you to that good moment.

Cheers!

Meet the Founder

With an education in the sciences and a passion for creating, Faith has taken an unexpected journey from pre-med student to artisan winemaker. While studying Biology and Chemistry, with the goal of entering medical school, a job at a local winery transformed into a deep love for the winemaking process.

Utilizing her degree, Faith dove into wine chemistry in the lab before transitioning to the cellar. Working harvest first in So. Indiana, then Southern Oregon and the Willamette Valley…it was in Oregon's wine country that she discovered the terroir & artistry that would define her wine preferences. She then worked in Samos Greece to develop a deep understanding of vineyard management and soil/ vine health.

To refine her education, she enrolled at UK to obtain her certificate in Distillation, Wine, and Brewing Sciences.

Now based in Louisville KY, Faith is proud to bring her own wine brand to her community. As a post-modern winemaker, she believes that great wines begin with the best fruit, where the quality of the grapes directly translates to the finished wine. While the fruit plays a leading role, the skill of the winemaker is essential in allowing each wine to realize its full potential. Good Pain wines are made to be enjoyed young, yet possess the biochemistry to age beautifully in the cellar.

Specializing in Alsatian-style whites & a signature Pinot Noir, she is excited to bring a fresh and unique offering to the Kentucky wine scene. These wines are crafted in Oregon, specifically for the Kentucky Commonwealth.
